Cascade d'Ars

Located close to the village of Aulus les Bains, the Cascade d'Ars is considered one of the most beautiful of the Pyrenees by the famous British Pyreneist Comte Russel who opened many roads at the end of the 19th century.

246 m high opening in three successive levels, it is at its best in may and june when the thaw comes.

* A wonderful family walk : 3/4 hours return, of average difficulty.
* It is martied in yellow then with 2 red and white stripes.
* From the Tourism Office, take D8 direction Col de la Trappe (in high season : leave the car in the village).

Your walk step by step :

* 0.00 A : Path of Ars : At the first hairpin bend, go through the barrier and follow the forest pathe until a crossing.
* 0.35 B : Path of fouillet (on the left). Don't take it, go on streight ahead on the main path.
* 0.40 C : You can see the GR on your left, just go on straight ahead. You vill see a norrow canyon on your left (Le Pas de l'Enfer : "The Step of Hell"). Before the end of the track, first view on the waterfall, then take the path on the left leading to the
* 0.55 D : Footbridge of Lartigou (1060 m), cross it and follow the track : the rier is on your right. You climb through a beech rove, among rasperry bushes people enjoy picking in August.
* 1.50 E : You can see the waterfall on your right. Only e few minutes' walk to reach the part which is 110 m high. You can com back the same way. You can go back by the GR 10
* 0.40 C : Get down to old buildings; one is round; this is
* 055 F : Prabis : an old charcoal oven, keep going down and cross the Garbet river on the flltbridge La Mouline, 200 m after.
* 1.20 G : Juction of the GR10, go straight ahead on a track which slightly goes up towards the
* 1.30 H : Deparmental Road 8 : go down on the left towords the village, pass the Garbet and that is
* 1.40 A : The end of the walk.
